The Kershaw 3560 Ember Folding Knife with Speedsafe is a great pocket knife if you’re looking for a knife that conveniently fits in your pocket, features high-quality design and production with amazingly quick deployment.
I previously used a very small Gerber knife that attached to my key-ring but since I am working a summer job at a furniture factory I upgraded to a knife that would be able to handle a heavier workload than the occasional usage my previous knife encountered.
The Ember is designed by Rick Hinderer and follows the design of its larger brother, the Cryo, which was awarded the “Best Buy of the Year” at the 2012 Blade Show. The 3560 features the Speedsafe assisted opening and an ergonomic flipper for a near instantaneous opening and the knife is held closed by a tight frame lock that prevents the knife from ever accidentally opening. There is also a deep pocket clip that has three interchangeable positions is you want a tip-up or tip-down clip position.
The knife blade is made of 8Cr13MoV stainless steel with a handle made of 410 stainless steel. Both are coated in a beautiful non-reflective matte gray Titanium Carbo Nitride finish that highlights the simplicity and ruggedness of the product.
SpeedSafe Assisted Opening
Kershaw Knives have always been considered some of the best knives available and their SpeedSafe assisted opening technology was the first of its kind available. The Ember uses a torsion bar to quickly deploy the knife from its closed position via using a manual push on the extrusion, or “flipper”, on the back of the blade. Once the blade is deployed it is locked into an open position until manually closed and there is no possibility of it accidentally closing.
The blade is easily deployed using just one hand.

It’s a no-frills knife that you can you slip into your back pocket and forget about until an opportunity presents itself. This is a knife that you can use and abuse, and if you lose it you won’t break the break.
The fit and finish of the Kershaw 3560 Ember is superb and the Speedsafe blade mechanism lives up to its name, it seems to open almost instantly. The knife is noticeably small and if you have large hands opening and closing the knife might be somewhat tedious.
With the blade deployed the knife perfectly fits into my hands and it’s ergonomically designed. My thumb rests right where I want to on top of the blade and my other fingers feel safe and secure behind the stopper on the bottom of the knife.
This is a must buy if you’re looking for an everyday carry style knife that is lightweight, well-built, affordable, and comes from one of the most regarded knife manufacturers
